Siraj ud-Daula became the Nawab of Bengal in 1756. He was the grandson of Alivardi Khan, who came into power from 1740 to 1756. When Alivardi Khan took the throne, he was a visionary Nawab. He prevented the French and English from fortifying their factories in Calcutta. He seized the English factory at KasimBazar, where Fort William surrendered.
