Olympe de Gouges was a French feminist and one of the most recognised female revolutionaries. She is best known for writing a pamphlet titled the Declaration of the Rights of Woman and Citizen in 1791 in response to the exclusion of women from fundamental rights. It was closely modelled on the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, which was included in the Constitution of 1791.
