In 1848, Louis Philippe was forced to flee due to the food shortage and unemployment. As economic conditions in France deteriorated, Philippe was forced to relinquish his crown after the French Revolution of 1848. The National Assembly declared the Republic, gave the right to vote to all adult males of age 21, and guaranteed the right to work. National service delivery workshops were established. Earlier, in 1845, weavers in Silesia led a revolt against contractors who supplied them with raw materials and ordered orders for the finished fabric but greatly reduced their payments.
