Detailed Solution

In 1855, the first jute mill came up in Bengal, India.
The first jute mill, the Acland Mill, came up in Bengal in 1855, with another being set seven years later, in 1862. It was set up by the collaboration of British entrepreneur George Acland, and Bengali financier Babu Bysumber Sen. The mill was looked after and managed by a jute mill overseer from Dundee named Charles Smith. The product jute yarns that were produced were sold to local weavers. The mill was very efficient and produced about 8 tons of jute yarn on a daily basis within two years of its operation. The mill was later expanded to include handweaving coarse gunny cloth.
