In 1871, the Criminal tribal act was passed. The pastoralists were challenging to identify compared to the established population. It led the British authorities to have suspicions about them. Therefore, the statute of 1871 allowed for the nomads' notified settlements. The village police were always keeping an eye on these nomads. They were given a permit to travel around. Every time the nomads wished to enter or exit the village, they had to obtain a license. As a result, this action altered the pastoralists' seasonal migration patterns across the regions, which defined their mode of subsistence.
