In 1873, Jyoti Rao Govindrao Phule founded the Satya shodhak Samaj to uplift the Oppressed classes.
Phule founded the Satya Sodhak Samaj, also known as the Society of Seekers of Truth, to promote critical thinking and fight for the rights of the oppressed classes. It was created to liberate the Shudras and Dalits and stop the upper caste from taking advantage of them, especially the ladies, as in the Maratha example.
