Detailed Solution

In 1917, Mahatma Gandhi travelled to Champaran to inspire the peasants to struggle against the oppressive plantation system.
Mahatma Gandhi travelled to Champaran in Bihar after getting aware of the condition of Champaran peasants. The Indigo planters of Bihar oppressed the cultivators of Champaran in April 1917. The concern was the Britishers were forcing the cultivators to either grow indigo without payment or stop growing indigo and pay rent. Both situations exploited the cultivators badly, leading to the farmers starting a satyagraha led by Gandhiji.
