Detailed Solution

In 1919 Gandhiji gave a call for a satyagraha against the Rowlatt Act.
Gandhiji called for satyagraha in 1919 in opposition to the Rowlatt Act, which the British had enacted. Fundamental freedoms including the right to free speech were restricted by the Act, which also increased police authority. Mahatma Gandhi, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, and others believed that the government had no right to limit people's fundamental liberties. They called the Act "devilish" and "tyrannical." Gandhiji requested that the Indian people observe April 6, 1919, as a day of "humiliation and prayer" and hartal in opposition to this Act (strike). Satyagraha Sabhas were formed to kickstart the movement. The Rowlatt Satyagraha was the first all-India struggle against the British government, despite being largely limited to cities.
