In 1922 Gandhi withdrew from the Non-Cooperation movement.
On 12 Feb 1922, Mahatma Gandhi withdrew from the Non-Cooperation movement due to the Chauri-Chaura incident. The people who participated in the Non-cooperation movement had become aggressive in many places because the Britishers attacked the revolts. However, in Uttar Pradesh state, Gorakhpur district, there was a police station where the protesters clashed with the police on 5 Feb 1922. The police opened fire against the mob, and then the angry revolutionaries burnt the whole police station at Chauri-Chaura, killing the 22 police officers present in the station. Thus Gandhiji got shocked by this incident and withdrew from the Non-cooperation movement.
