Detailed Solution

In 1927, BR Ambedkar started a temple entry movement in which his Mahar caste followers participated. He decided to launch a strong campaign against untouchability. He began with demonstrations and marches to expand access to public drinking water resources. In 1927, Ambedkar organised a drive for temple admissions, and caste members from the Mahar community participated. The Brahman priests were incensed when the Dalits used the water in the temple tank. He wished everyone should be aware of caste stereotypes' impact on society. After publicly criticising the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti (Laws of Manu) for endorsing "untouchability" and caste prejudice on ideological grounds, Ambedkar ceremonially burnt copies of it. On December 25, 1927, he ordered hundreds of followers to burn copies of Manusmriti.
