Detailed Solution

The above statement is false.
Things were drastically different two hundred years ago. The majority of children were married off at a young age. The reform movement gained traction as women's organisations and literature on these topics grew in number. People questioned the legitimacy of child marriage, another long-standing tradition. Several Indian lawmakers battled to pass a bill prohibiting child marriage in the Central Legislative Assembly. The Child Marriage Restraint Act of 1929 was approved without the heated debates and fights that had accompanied previous laws. The Act stated that no man under the age of 18 and no woman under the age of 16 could get married. These restrictions were then increased to 21 for men and 18 for women.
