Detailed Solution

In the 19th century India, folklore or songs were revived through a movement to develop nationalism.
Then restoration of folklores promoted the traditional Indian culture, which the Britishers overshadowed. It helped to create a sense of nationalism among the people. So Rabindranath Tagore himself collected ballads, nursery rhymes, and myths and popularised them. Natesa Sastri published The Folklore of Southern India, a massive four-volume collection of Tamil folk tales. It was believed to be the most trustworthy manifestation of people's honest thoughts and characteristics. These folklore or songs had an advantage as they could reach a more comprehensive section of the country, as illiterates could also understand this.
