Detailed Solution

In a collision, the momentum of the system is constant.
However, kinetic energy is not "conserved" in an inelastic collision. When two objects collide, kinetic energy can change into other forms, such as elastic deformation energy or sound. The collision becomes inelastic as a result of the loss of Kinetic energy. The collision is elastic if there is no feasible mode into which energy could be converted. On the other hand, momentum is a phenomenon that cannot be changed into another. Therefore, it must continue to be conserved despite kinetic energy conservation.
The initial and final momentums are equal according to the law of conservation of momentum. This implies that the system's momentum is continuously constant.
