Detailed Solution

In a hydropower plant, potential energy possessed by stored water is converted into electricity.
In a hydropower plant, water from the top of the dam is allowed to fall through pipelines over the blades of a turbine at the bottom of the dam. Through this process, the potential energy of water changes into its kinetic energy, which is transferred to the turbine. The moving turbine rotates the armature of a generator to produce electricity that is turbine changes the kinetic energy into electricity. Therefore, the potential energy possessed by stored water in the dam is converted into electrical energy.
