In a ring girdled plant

In ring girdled plant, the bark of the plant is removed from around the entire circumference of either a branch or trunk of a woody plant. The bark is any tissue present above the vascular cambium ring. Therefore, the bark includes the phloem. Phloem is used for the transport of food, mostly from leaves to the other plant parts.
Hence, if we remove the bark, the food conduction cannot take place from the leaves to the roots, and due to deprivation of food, the roots die first.
(1) In a ring girdled plant, the root dies first due to deprivation of food. After the death of roots, the shoot dies after some time due to lack of water and nutrients.
(2) In a ring girdled plant, the root dies first, followed by the death of shoot.
(3) In a ring girdled plant, the root dies first, followed by the death of shoot. The shoot does not die first.
