In ADE and ABC, DEBC.

Thales’s Theorem states that if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle intersecting the other two sides in distinct points, then the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.

By using Thales' theorem

ADDB=AEEC

x+13x-1=x4x-3

(x+1)(4 x-3)=x(3 x-1)

4x2-3x+4x-3=3x2-x

x2+2x-3=0

x2+3x-x-3=0

x(x+3)-1(x+3)=0

(x+3)(x-1)=0

x=-3,1

We can ignore the negative value of x as it cannot be negative.

x=1

Therefore, the value of x is 1.
