Detailed Solution

The variegated leaf experiment helps to exhibit that chlorophyll (pigment present in the green parts of plants) is necessary for photosynthesis. This experiment involves looking for starch creation in two leaves – a variegated leaf or a leaf that was partially roofed with black paper and one that was exposed to light. Starch is formed from glucose made during photosynthesis. Therefore, parts of the leaf with the chlorophyll should turn blue-black when added iodine shows that starch is present. This, in turn, proves that photosynthesis happened. On the other hand, the white areas of the leaf, in the absence of chlorophyll, could not photosynthesize. This means they could not create glucose and turn this into starch. Therefore, when getting tested with iodine, these areas should stay pale. The balanced Equation Of photosynthesis is given below: 6𝐢𝑂2 + 6𝐻 2 𝑂 + πΏπ‘–π‘”β„Žπ‘‘ πΈπ‘›π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘”π‘¦β†’πΆ 6 𝐻 12 𝑂6 + 6𝑂2 In photosynthesis, the water molecules split into protons (𝐻 electrons, and oxygen gas
