To determine the focal length of the mirror, you need to measure the distance between the mirror and the screen.
A concave mirror can converge the rays falling on it and produce real images. When a ray of light from a distant object, which might be at infinity, falls on the concave mirror, the image is produced at the focus. So placing the screen on the focus gives the focal length of the mirror.
