  • The megasporangium is a plant structure that generates megaspores, which are female gametophytes. The megasporangium is typically found in seed plant ovules and is surrounded by a protective layer known as the integument.
  • The megasporangium's megaspore mother cell divides meiotically to produce four megaspores. In which, there is only one functional megaspore that develops into the embryo sac. This embryo sac is the female gametophyte. The other three megaspores degenerate.
