Detailed Solution

In Awadh, at many places, nai-dhobi bandhs were organised by the panchayats to deprive landlords of the services of Barbers and washermen.
The tyrannical landowners and talukdars faced the fury of peasants who wished to boycott them socially. Peasants were forced to pay excessive taxes and cess by landlords and talukdars. Peasants had no security of tenure, which led to their eviction from farms on a frequent basis. They were also forced to undertake begar, or forced labour, for no compensation. In retaliation, peasants led by Baba Ramchandra rose up in revolt. Peasants requested a social boycott of unjust landlords, revenue reductions, and the abolition of begar. Landlords in some areas were subjected to nai-dhobi bandhs by panchayats, which denied them the services of barbers and washermen.
