Detailed Solution

In Awadh, peasants were led by Baba Ramchandra, a sanyasi who had earlier been to Fiji as an indentured labourer. During the Non-Cooperation Movement, peasants in Awadh were led by Baba Ramchandra. He led a campaign against talukdars and landowners who sought excessively high rents and other cesses from peasants. Peasants were compelled to work for free on the landlords' farms(begar). They had no tenure security as tenants, as they were evicted frequently, preventing them from acquiring ownership of the rented land. The peasant movement advocated lowering taxes, eliminating begars, and a social boycott of unjust landlords. The Panchayats staged nai-dhobi bandhs in numerous locations to deny landowners access to washermen and barbers.
