Detailed Solution

In Britain, the most dynamic industries were Cotton and Metals. Cotton and metals were the two most thriving industries in Britain. Until the 1840s, the cotton industry led the initial wave of industrialisation, followed by the iron and steel industries. It was challenging for the emerging industries to replace the established ones. The steam-powered cotton and metal industries did not dictate how quickly the "old" sectors changed, but neither did they stagnate entirely. Moreover, technological advancements were gradual. James Watt improved the steam engine built by Newcomen, and the new machine was patented in 1781. Mathew Boulton, a friend and industrialist, created the new model. The other industries didn't start using steam engines until much later in the century.
