In cockroach, uric acid is synthesised in the Malpighian tubules. The Malpighian tubules collect potassium urate from the haemolymph. In the Malpighian tubules, potassium urate, water and carbon dioxide react to form potassium bicarbonate, uric acid and water. Potassium bicarbonate and water are reabsorbed into the haemolymph and uric acid is released into the ileum.
