In the alimentary canal of cockroach, the proventriculus or gizzard is part of foregut. In foregut, mouth, pharynx, oesophagus, crop and gizzard are present. Gizzard has outer circular muscles and thick inner cuticle forming six highly chitinous plates called teeth. It helps in the grinding of food particles.
