In cockroaches, the respiratory pigment is absent in the blood.

The blood or hemolymph in cockroaches is colourless due to the absence of respiratory pigments like hemoglobin. The fluid hemolymph carries nutrients throughout the body but does not participate in the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide.

The respiration occurs through 10 pairs of pores called spiracles present on the lateral side of the body. Thin branching tubes connect to the spiracles forming a tracheal system that carries oxygen to all the parts of the body.
