Hence beasties are known as primary consumers and herbivores are secondary consumers. The alternate trophic position includes organisms that eat directors. Decomposers are organisms that get energy from dead or waste organic material. It's the last stage in the food chain. It's an integral part of the food chain as they convert organic waste into inorganic accoutrements like nutrient rich soil.
