In Fatehpur Sikri, many of the buildings show the influence of the architectural styles of Gujarat and Malwa. The illustrious Mughal emperor Akbar constructed the town in 1569. That year, Akbar had travelled to the city of Sikri to see the Muslim hermit Chishti. As Chishti correctly predicted, Akbar's desire for an heir would be fulfilled by the birth of a son. Salm was born in Sikri that year, and he would eventually govern as Emperor Jahangir. The appreciative Akbar chose Sikri as his capital because he believed the location to be lucky.
