In the figure, if line segment AB is parallel to the line segment CD, what is the value of y? 12201518

Now,

∠ A B D = y + 2 y + y

⇒ ∠ A B D = 4 y

Since,

∠ A B D

and

∠ C D B

are consecutive interior angles, therefore,

∠ A B D + ∠ C D B = 180 ∘

⇒ 4 y + 5 y = 180 ∘

⇒ 9 y = 180 ∘
