Detailed Solution

In India, if a graduate degree was made compulsory for candidates who contest in elections, more than 90% of the citizens would not be able to contest in elections.
There is no educational qualification for contesting as a candidate in any of the elections. This can be explained in different ways. Educational qualifications are not pertinent to all kinds of jobs. The required qualification for being an MLA or an MP is the capacity to understand people's interests and problems and to represent these interests. The verdict of whether they can do so or not is given to their voters every five years. Most importantly, putting an educational qualification in India would go against the very spirit of democracy, as it would deprive a vast majority of citizens of the right to contest elections.
