Detailed Solution

In India, the first census was held in the year 1872.
In 1872, British Viceroy Lord Mayo launched the first Census in India. It aided in the formation of new policies and government programs to suit community requests. This census, however, was not synchronised and did not cover all British territories. W.C. Plowden conducted the first synchronised census under British control on February 17, 1881. (Census Commissioner of India). The first census of Independent India began on February 9, 1951, and lasted until February 28, 1951. The country's population was estimated to be 36,10,88,090 people. As of 2011, the census had been conducted 15 times in the previous ten years. The Census of India Act of 1948 governs all censuses in India.
