Detailed Solution

In Indian society, there were five varnas, brahmins, kshatriyas, vaishyas, shudras, and untouchables. Under the caste system, Brahmans and Kshatriyas were called "higher castes." Others were positioned after them, including merchants and moneylenders (commonly referred to as Vaishyas). Then came farmers and Shudra artisans, including weavers and potters. Those who worked for the upper castes or kept towns and villages clean were on the lowest rung. These groups were regarded as "untouchable" by the upper castes. They were additionally recognised as the fifth varna. The untouchables lived in extremely deplorable social conditions. They were prohibited from entering temples, accessing wells, or taking a bath in such public ponds by the "Upper Caste" people.
