In June 1920, Jawaharlal Nehru visited Awadh during the peasant movement. Jawaharlal Nehru started touring the villages in Awadh in June 1920, speaking with the locals and attempting to ascertain their complaints. As a result, the Oudh Kisan Sabha was established in October under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru, Baba Ramchandra, and a few others. In less than a month, the villages in the area had more than 300 branches of the Sabha established. Moreover, the Indian National Congress tried to include the Awadh peasants' fight in the broader struggle when the Non-Cooperation Movement started the following year.
