Detailed Solution

In nij-cultivation planter produced Indigo on the land that he directly controlled.
Nij and you were the two main indigo cultivation systems. Under the Nij farming method, the planter cultivated indigo in areas under his direct control. He bought or rented the land from other zamindars and produced indigo by hiring labourers directly. It was difficult for the planters to expand the Nij cultivation area. Indigo could only be grown in fertile areas that were already densely populated. Only small plots scattered across the terrain could be purchased. Planters needed large investments in small blocks to grow indigo in plantations.
