Detailed Solution

In order to grant equal opportunity to the weaker sections of society in India, a system of reservation has been introduced. Reservation is a system of affirmative action, and a means to remedy historical or prevalent discrimination in society. The framers of the Indian Constitution believed equality meant equal treatment under equal circumstances. They understood India’s history of caste and class, and accordingly, the government introduced the system of reservation in government jobs, educational institutions and even in local government. This became necessary because there was a lack of representation of the weaker sections of society in bodies where authority and power were concentrated.
