In our country, NREGA 2005 aims to provide a minimum of 100 days of employment in a year to all who can and are willing to work.
The National Rural Employment Act (NREGA), later renamed the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Act (MGNREGA), is a demand-driven wage employment program enacted by the government of India in 2005, aiming to grant the people of India the ‘right to work.’ MGNREGA was passed in parliament in September 2005. Under this program, all those who need wage employment and are able and willing to do manual or unskilled work are guaranteed 100 days of assured wage employment in a year by the government. In the event of the government’s failure to provide such employment, it will provide unemployment allowances to the targeted people. That’s why it came to be known as MGNREGA 2005.
