In the Panchayati Raj System, 33% of seats are reserved for Women.
According to article 243D of the Constitution, 33% of the seats should be reserved for women in Panchayat Raj. In other words, about one-third (1/3rd) of the total seats and offices of the chairman are reserved. In many regions, it is observed that there was low participation of women in the law-making bodies. This initiative is taken to ensure equal participation in the representation of women in the Panchayati Raj. Along with the seat reservation for the women, seats are also reserved for the people belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
