In Punjab, the Mughal authority was challenged by the Sikhs. Punjab was under the rule of Sikhs. Sikhs were contemporary of the Mughals. In the 17th-18th centuries, there emerged a conflict between the Sikhs and the Mughals. During the rule of Akbar, there was peace between the two. The conflict escalated during the period of Mughal ruler Jahangir. During the rule of Shah Jahan, Guru Teg Bahadur was executed, and the Mughals acquired Anandpur. In the period of Aurangzeb, the Mughal authority was challenged by Banda Singh Bahadur, the Khalsa Army commander. Later, the Sikh rule was expanded and consolidated in Punjab by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
