Detailed Solution

In Rajya Sabha, one-third of the members retire after every two years. The Lok Sabha is sometimes referred to as the "House of the People," whereas the Rajya Sabha is more commonly known as the "Council of the States." The Rajya Sabha, in contrast to the Lok Sabha, is a permanent body. Every other year one-third of its members step down from their posts, and in their place, newly elected members assume their position in the organisation. Each member has a term of office equal to six years in length. The Vice President of India automatically assumes the role of Chairman of the Rajya Sabha when that position becomes vacant.
