It was seen that the majority community would always rule over the country if there were no equality and secularism in government. Srilankan government wanted to elect Sinhala's supremacy because Sinhala was in the majority, and they wanted their language to be the country's official language. As Sinhala practised Buddhism and demanded a new constitution stipulated to protect and foster Buddhism. When the Tamils raised their voice against the divide, their voices were suppressed by cruel means.
