Detailed Solution

In the Bombay Presidency, as late as 1829, untouchables were not allowed.
The nation was divided during British administration into several sizable states, including Central Provinces and Berar, as well as the presidencies of Bombay, Madras, and Calcutta. Princely states were found to make up a sizable portion of the nation. Following the Maratha loss in the Anglo-Maratha War, Bombay was designated as the capital of the Bombay Presidency in 1819. Even government schools were closed to untouchables in the Bombay Presidency as late as 1829. They were permitted to sit on the balcony outside the classroom and listen to the lessons after some of them fought hard for that privilege so they wouldn't "pollute" the space where upper-caste boys were educated.
