In the 16th century, after European sailors found a sea route to Asia, they discovered America. Before the discovery of America by the Europeans, the former was cut from regular contact with the rest of the world. But then, in the 16th century, its vast lands and various crops and minerals started to become a changing factor for many lives worldwide. Precious metals like silver from the mines of present-day Peru and Mexico helped in enhancing the wealth of Europe and also financed its trade with Asia. These rich resources attracted European powers to colonise America. The Portuguese and Spanish conquest had already started by the mid-sixteenth century.
