Additional advancements in printing technology occurred throughout the nineteenth century. Publishers and printers constantly came up with innovative ways to market their goods. Important novels were serialized in nineteenth-century newspapers, which gave rise to a distinct style of novel writing. Popular works were sold in inexpensive volumes known as the Shilling Series in the 1920s in England. Another invention from the twentieth century is the dust jacket or book jacket. Publishers were concerned that a drop in book sales would follow the Great Depression's advent in the 1930s. They released inexpensive paperback editions to maintain sales.
