Detailed Solution

In the 19th century, the rise of food prices or a year of bad harvest led to widespread Pauperism in town and country. There was an enormous increase in population in Europe in the 19th century. This increased the number of job seekers and reduced employment in most countries. People from rural areas migrated to the cities and they were forced to live in overcrowded slums. Small producers in the towns had to face cutthroat competition from imports of cheap machine-made goods from England, industrialisation was more advanced in England than on the continent. Peasants struggled under the burden of feudal dues and obligations in the regions of Europe where the aristocracy still enjoyed power. There was widespread pauperism in town and country due to the rise in food prices and a year of bad harvest.
