In the concave reflector of a torch, the bulb is placed at the reflector's focus.
In torches, searchlights and headlights of vehicles, the bulb is placed very near to the reflector's focus to get a parallel beam of light through which we can see to a longer distance.
Concave mirrors are used in torch reflectors because when the bulb of the headlight is situated at the focus of the concave mirror, after the reflection, it will allow the light to spread out to infinity. The lights emitted by the torch bulbs cover a wider field of view. This is precisely why the light rays from a torch bulb can reach a great distance.
