In the dry plateaus, the movement of pastoralists was based on monsoon and dry seasons.
The dry central plateau in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh was covered in stone and grass and populated by cow, goat, and sheep headers. Unlike mountain pastoralists, their periodic rhythms of travel were determined by alternating the monsoon and dry seasons rather than by cold and snow. They relocated to coastal areas during the dry season and left when it started to rain. Only buffaloes enjoyed the monsoon season's marshy, rainy conditions in the coastal regions. At this point, moving other herds to the dry plateau was necessary.
