Detailed Solution

In the eighteenth century, the demand for food grains increased in Britain due to population growth.
Britain's need for food grains increased as the population grew in the late eighteenth century. The demand for agricultural products increased as cities and industries flourished, pushing food grain prices upward. The government also prohibited corn imports due to pressure from landed interests and thus enforced 'The Corn Law'. However, industrialists and city inhabitants pushed for the repeal of the Corn Laws, citing high food prices as a reason. Following the abolition of the Corn Laws, food could be imported into the United Kingdom at a lower cost than it could be produced domestically.
