It is given that a ray AB intersects a ray CD at O such that

x = 60 ° .

We know that intersecting lines are two straight lines that meet with each other at one point, and the place where they do so is referred to as the point of intersection.
When two lines intersect, a line of angles is formed. The sum of any linear pair of angles must be

180 ° .

In Fig. 10.60, rays AB and CD intersect at O.Determine x when y = 40

From the above figure, we have,

∠ A O C + ∠ B O C = 180 ° Linear pair ⇒ 2 x + y = 180 °

⇒ 2 × 60 ° + y = 180 ° Given x = 60 ° ⇒ y + 120 ° = 180 ° ⇒ y = 60 °

Therefore, the value of

y = 60 ° .

Hence, option (2) is correct.
