Detailed Solution

Given that a square OABC is inscribed in a quadrant OPBQ.
In Fig. 12.31, a square OABC is inscribed in a quadrant OPBQ. If OA = 20 cm, find the area of the shaded region.From the given figure, triangle OAB is a right angled triangle.
Using Pythagoras theorem.
OB 2 =OA 2 +A 2   (1)
OA=20cm  ,
Let AB=20cm
(Since it is a square, all sides are equal in length)
Substitute OA & AB in Eq (1).
OB 2 = 20 2 + 20 2
OB 2 =2 20 2
OB= 2 20 2
Question ImageRadius of the quadrant is Question Image.
Area of a quadrant = π r 2 4
Area of a quadrant OQBP = π 20 2 2 4
Area= 3.14 20 2 2 4
Area= 3.14 800 4
Area= 2512 4
Area of a quadrant OQBP Question Image (1)
Question ImageArea of square = a 2
Area of square= 20 2
Question Image (2)
Area of the shaded region = Area of quadrant OQBP – Area of square OABC
Substitute Eq (1) & Eq (2) in the above equation.
Area of the shaded region
Question ImageHence, the area of the shaded region is Question Image.
Therefore the answer is option (1).
