In the horizontal division of power, power is shared among different Organs of government.
The legislative, executive and judiciary branches of government enjoy equal authority. Because it permits different government organs situated at the same level to exercise different authorities, this is a horizontal distribution of power. This division prevents any organ from having unrestricted authority. In addition, the various organs check each other. As a result, power is distributed relatively across different institutions. Even though they have authority, ministers and other government officials in a democracy answer to the Parliament or State Assemblies, similarly, judges can oversee the implementation of laws passed by legislatures or the executive branch, despite being selected by the executive. A system of checks and balances is used to describe this setup.
