In the late nineteenth century, Europeans were attracted to Africa due to its vast resources of land and minerals. Europeans were drawn to Africa because of the continent's abundant mineral and land resources. Africa had a huge amount of land and a sparse population. Africans rarely engaged in paid labour for many generations because land and cattle provided their subsistence. There were few consumer products available in late nineteenth-century Africa that could be purchased with wages.
